Let me tell you from experience that running out of yarn right before you finish a big project (like a sweater) is a huge bummer! To save you from this sad, sad fate I have put together this chart of yardage estimates for the most common weights of yarn for making sweaters. With this information you can make sure you have the right amount of yarn every time you make a sweater!

These amounts are only approximates, based on average size projects, and will vary depending on the type of stitch, gauge and differences in individual knitters.

To find out how many skeins to you’ll need to purchase, divide the total yardage needed by the yardage amount per skein. Be sure to round up to the nearest whole skein.
