Pick up and knit 2 stitches for every 3 rows along the side of the front of your front opening. Knit all rows until you have reached one half of your desired depth. At this point you will add button holes.

For buttonholes
Step 1:
Place a stitch marker at each point you would like place a buttonhole. Knit to your first buttonhole marker, bind off 1, 2 or 3 stitches (depending on how large your buttons are), repeat at each buttonhole marker then work to the end of the row.

Step 2:
Work to the first set of bound off buttonhole stitches, where the stitches were bound off cast on the same amount of stitches to create the second half of the buttonhole, repeat at each set of bound off buttonhole stitches.

Knit all remaining rows until you have reached your desired band depth. Bind off all stitches using the decrease bind off.
